Intermediate Photography Workshop – One day photographic training course

In the Intermediate Photography Workshop we go more in depth into mastering the principles of photography.

This Intermediate Digital Photography course is for people who understand how their camera functions already. The course is suitable for beginners and amateurs wanting to improve their skills. The course will aim to develop your visual and creative skills. So if your aim is to take better pictures of your children, better images of your holiday this course will give you the tools to start shooting your own creative photographic projects.

Please bring your own digital SLR with you but if you haven’t got one yet, I have equipment I can lend you for the course (make sure you bring a memory card or USB memory stick to take home your images with you).

The course is largely practical in nature with lots of hands on experience and opportunities for 1-1 tuition. The structure for the day is as follows:

MORNING session: We will go through some slides explaining the content of the workshop. Looking at the elements with in the images. This is an open discussion and feel free to ask questions.
AFTERNOON session: Putting it all into action.

You will learn to plan and create images, rather than just take them. The course is split into easy to understand sections. You will learn to see rather than just look, these elements are applicable to all types of photography, portraiture and landscape. Family Portrait Photographer in Devon – Its about you and your story.

I love being a family portrait photographer and our family portrait photo shoots are a lot of fun and a great way to spend some time together. Our family portrait photographs are about atmosphere, capturing the emotions and importantly fun!

If there’s a special toy you want to bring along to be in any photos, then please do. Likewise, if there is a special outfit “knitted jumper by granny” etc, bring that also. Bring something you like, so if you’re into music or you’re a football-mad family why not bring something along and we’ll be able to theme some of your pictures to tell your story about you and your family.

Please feel free to bring a few changes of clothes. But avoid patterns and logos, it does distract from the main focus (Which is you and the kids). Long sleeves are better, plain strong colours, dark blues, blacks. Avoid white. If you want a group/family shot try to keep a theme running through it e.g. all wearing same coloured jeans, all have a hat – you get the idea. But don’t worry, most of all come and have fun, enjoy and get some great pictures.

Family portrait photography normally takes one hour in our fully equipped home studio, during which time we’ll shoot plenty of varied poses and groups.

I now offer photography workshops in Devon.

You may have just bought a new DSLR or are looking to buy your first digital SLR. So, I offer training in all aspects of photography, whether it is getting to grips with the controls of your new camera or understanding of something more involved. We will cover the basics; shutter speed, aperture, ISO, composition and lens focal length. It doesn’t even matter if you haven’t got a DSLR, as I have equipment that you can use while on the course.

The courses are very much hand’s on, we will spend a little time going through the information together at your pace. Some of the courses are run as a group session where you will be able to meet other students and share experiences and hopefully make some new friends. Others are run on a one to one basis so you get personal tuition on the areas of photography that you wish to concentrate.

All courses have printed notes for your reference.

Food Photographer in Devon

Food Photographer in Devon

A local delicatessen based in Torquay had been searching for a commercial food photographer to help support the launch of their new website and advertising campaign. We initially spoke about the brief on the phone and they wanted to emphasise the wholesome home cooked style of food. But they didn’t want to use stock images, so we discussed shooting it like was for a recipe book, so the customers could see the food been created in stages. It gives a more personal approach to the food so the customers know that the food has been created in store and is of the highest quality ingredients.

I know that the images will be used for the website, advertising flyers and in the local newspaper. I also know the owner has been nominated for business woman of the year.

When shooting commercial photography projects it’s very important to go through the details of what the images are to be used for and to get the creative ideas bouncing between the photographer and the client. So when the brief is complete we both know what we are doing. We looked through recipe books, so I could get an idea of the style of food photography the client did like and more importantly the style of images they didn’t like.

So the following week we had the date set for the shoot and the food was prepared. So below is a small sample of the images supplied. I particularly like the scotch eggs being prepared. When placed together in a montage it works so well.

Wembury Church

The beautiful Wembury Church, Anglican church of St Werburgh is set in a stunning location overlooking the sea, Wembury beach and the Mewstone.

The church makes a beautiful wedding Veune with its unparrelled views over the Mewstone, After the ceremony we’ll spend some time in either field behind the church or down on the beach. Creating your beautiful wedding photographs in this historic and stunning location.

One of fourteen churches dedicated to that saint (not all still in use), the present structure dates from around the fourteenth century, although there are grounds to believe that it had predecessors as far back as the ninth century.

So you’d like to know a little bit more about the photo booth, that’s great please have a look through the FAQ section below, if you are looking for a photo booth for a wedding, birthday party, Christmas party or corporate event in Devon you are in the right place.

Do you charge extra for traveling?

Not if I am your wedding photographer, and travel within 30 miles of Newton Abbot is included if I am just supplying the photo booth. So that’s Plymouth, Tavistock, Exeter, Torquay up to Tiverton include free.

What are the space requirements ?

The Photo booth system assembles into open-frame (open-air) structure.
Dimensions are (1.9m width) x (1.9m depth) x (1.9m height).
Dual-height option for system allows for 1′ (30cm) lower height setting.

Do you charge extra to setup the photo booth?

No, it is included in the price.

How long will it take to set up?

No tools required for assembly.
20 minute setup time.

Do you require the venue to supply anything for the photo booth?

We will need a table to place the props on near the photo booth and the space, that’s all.

Can we remove a photo or photos from the event gallery?

Yes of course, you’ve got veto power on everything that goes up on the site, so no worries if you happen upon some, shall we say, regrettable poses! Just drop me an email and it’ll be gone.

Do you require mains power?

No, the photo booth does not require a power supply. But it’s nice to have one to keep batteries charged.

Do we get unlimited photos?

Yes. With every package the “fun” is unlimited. We are supplying a disk of images and uploading to our facebook page, because we are not printing on site it’s much quicker.

Can it be used in marques?

Yes as long as the floor is level.

Can we supply our own props?

Yes. we encourage you to bring along any special props that your guests may enjoy taking pictures with.

We charge a refundable bond against the cost of the props.

It’s a £75 refundable bond, incase the props get damaged or go missing. If anything does happen we would only charge you for the cost of replacement and refund the rest.

What do you do once inside the photo booth?

Simply press the big red button, then watch the countdown (5 seconds) and pose for the camera. One of the advantages of the photo booth is that it is very user friendly.

Can we add extra hours from the standard package?

Yes, of course. Please get in contact to discuss.

What happens if there is a problem with the booth?

The photo booth is contractually guaranteed to run 80% of the time. It will occasionally require batteries and memory cards replaced, otherwise it will work non stop.

What’s included with the photo booth hire?

Props

We provide a range of fun props for use with the photo booth (e.g. wigs, fake moustaches, feather bowers, comic spectacles, pirate, cowboy outfits…. ). They make for some hilarious pictures and lots of laughter. If you have specific props that you wish to use for your wedding/event (i.e. if your wedding/event has a theme) then please discuss this with us. If we don’t have them, we can look to source them for you at a small cost.

Attendant

The attendant will set the photo booth up in advance of your guests arriving and will be on hand to ensure that booth operates properly and you and your guests are satisfied. They’ll help with the props; pose ideas and help getting every last straggler in on the fun.

Images on Facebook

The images after the event will be available on our facebook page usually 48 hours after the event. Your guests can view all the event photos, or download a small low resolution file (from red chilli photographys facebook) to make their own prints. Of course, you’ve got veto power on everything that goes up on the site, so no worries if you happen upon some, shall we say, regrettable poses! But you’ll be able to Tag your friends and share with people who couldn’t make it. This is included free with all photo booth hire options.

Soar Mill Cove Wedding, Jo and Daniel.

A couple of weeks back I had the pleasure of capturing the wedding of Jo and Daniel which took place a the stunning Soar Mill Cove hotel near Salcombe with beautiful views of the beach and sea. The sun set was perfect and was not part of the planned shot list but as soon as the sun started to set we decided to quickly run out and get a few more couple portraits.
